CHERRY HILL, N.J. — Cherry Hill Police officers joined local officials and community members over the weekend to take part in the American Legion’s annual Flagging of the Graves at Locustwood Cemetery, placing American flags on veterans’ graves to honor their service.
The annual tradition brings together local organizations and residents to recognize those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Participants placed small American flags at the headstones of veterans as a gesture of remembrance.
The Cherry Hill Fire Department, Mayor Susan Shin Angulo, members of the Cherry Hill Township Council, and numerous residents also participated in the flagging event.
“Each flag represents a story of service, sacrifice, and bravery,” the Cherry Hill Police Department said in a statement shared following the event.
The event was organized by the American Legion, which has coordinated the local cemetery flagging for years as part of its Memorial Day commemorations. The initiative aims to ensure that every veteran buried at Locustwood Cemetery is acknowledged and honored annually.
Cherry Hill Township gave thanks to all those involved in the event, with special recognition to the American Legion for leading the effort. Local leaders emphasized the importance of civic engagement in maintaining the memory of veterans’ contributions.
This year’s event took place under clear skies, providing favorable conditions for the large turnout. Families, scouts, and veterans were among those walking the cemetery grounds, many stopping to read names engraved in the headstones.
