CHESAPEAKE, VA — A Chesapeake police officer was injured early Friday after a suspected intoxicated driver struck the officer’s marked patrol vehicle head-on, authorities said.

The collision occurred in the 1300 block of South Military Highway when the other driver crossed into the officer’s lane, resulting in a direct impact.

Both the officer and the other driver were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed the officer was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, which helped minimize the severity of injuries.
