Dual-purpose police dog adds tactical duties to patrol and narcotics work
Chesapeake, VA – A Chesapeake Police K9 has taken on an expanded role after earning certification to serve alongside the department’s SWAT team, officials announced.
K9 Bart, a 4-year-old German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois mix, is already trained as both a patrol and narcotics detection dog. Police said his new designation as a SWAT K9 marks an additional step in his operational responsibilities.
Dual-purpose K9 adds tactical capability
“Bart is a 4 year old German Shepherd/ Belgian Mali mix! He’s a dual purpose dog- he’s a certified Patrol K9 and Narcotics K9, as well as a certified Good Boy,” the department shared.
Officials said Bart “proudly works the streets of the City of Chesapeake, serving the citizens and aiding in their safety.”
