Child rescued from Delaware River after fall from Burlington boat ramp

BURLINGTON, N.J. — A child was rescued from the Delaware River on Friday afternoon after falling into the water near a boat ramp, according to a statement released by the City of Burlington Police Department.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:50 p.m. when a juvenile accidentally fell into the river. Another juvenile who was nearby immediately jumped into the water to assist, helping the child stay afloat and calm.

A passing boater observed the situation and quickly intervened, helping both juveniles return safely to shore.

“Thanks to the courageous and selfless actions of the second juvenile and the swift response of the boater, both children were safely brought to shore without injury,” the department stated.

No emergency medical services were needed at the time, and authorities confirmed that all individuals involved have been identified. The police have concluded their investigation, finding no further cause for concern.

The department commended the juvenile who responded without hesitation and expressed gratitude to the boater for stepping in to help.

No further investigation expected

Officials reported that the incident was resolved at the scene and no additional inquiries are underway. The prompt action by those present prevented what could have been a more serious situation.

All parties are safe, and the incident has been formally closed by Burlington authorities.
