MYSTIC ISLAND, N.J. — A shed fire sparked by children playing with fire prompted an emergency response in Mystic Island before crews quickly brought the flames under control, preventing further damage. The incident unfolded near Beach Drive and Radio Road, where responders confirmed the fire had already been extinguished upon arrival.
Emergency dispatch records show Station 72 units were sent to the scene, including units 7200 and 7210, after reports of a structure fire involving a shed. Authorities indicated early on that the blaze was no longer active but urged caution in the area due to children nearby.
Fire contained before escalation
By the time first responders arrived, the shed fire had been knocked down, shifting the focus from suppression to investigation. Units on scene confirmed the fire was out and began assessing the cause and any potential hazards left behind.
Preliminary information relayed through dispatch suggested that several children had been playing with fire and unintentionally ignited the shed. No injuries have been reported.
Investigation requested at scene
Command staff requested the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office (OCFM) to respond, signaling a formal investigation into how the fire started and whether any safety or legal concerns need to be addressed.
Additional units, including 7201, responded to assist as crews remained on location to evaluate the situation and ensure no rekindle risk.
