Chilling attempted assault in DC sparks urgent manhunt

WASHINGTON, DC — Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect in an attempted sexual assault that occurred early on July 29 in Northwest Washington, DC.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the incident took place around 2:20 a.m. near the intersection of Belmont and 14th Streets NW. The suspect allegedly approached the victim, displayed a firearm, and assaulted the individual while attempting to commit a forced sexual act.

The suspect was captured on surveillance footage, and police have released images in hopes of identifying the individual.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the incident is urged to contact police by calling (202) 727-9099 or by texting tips anonymously to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in this case.
