CLEVELAND, OH – A Cleveland man walking out of a Cleveland Clinic appointment noticed sunlight hitting a building marked with the address 10001, tucked the number away for his next Lottery play and later turned that chance observation into a $27,500 Pick 5 win.
Love Fuggs of Cleveland won the prize in the Aug. 22 evening Pick 5 drawing, according to the Ohio Lottery.
Fuggs noticed the address while leaving an appointment on the Cleveland Clinic main campus.
The number caught his attention, prompting him to use it as inspiration for two Pick 5 combinations.
Fuggs played 1-1-1-0-0 and 1-0-0-0-1, placing a 50-cent wager along with a 10-way backup bet.
He purchased the ticket at Quick Shop Food Mart, located at 4263 Monticello Blvd. in South Euclid.
Fuggs did not immediately realize his hospital-inspired numbers had paid off.
He was watching volleyball on television with his daughter when he heard the winning numbers and thought they sounded familiar.
Unsure whether he had actually played the number, Fuggs went to his car to retrieve the ticket.
After checking it and realizing he had won, he shared the news with his family.
The $27,500 prize already has a purpose.
Fuggs plans to put the winnings toward fixing up a car for his daughter to use while attending college.
Ohio Pick 5 drawings are held twice daily, at 12:29 p.m. and 7:29 p.m.
