HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — Construction is officially underway on the Berkeley Park Sports Complex in Henderson County, prompting a full closure of the park to the public for the next 18 months, county officials announced Monday.
The project includes the addition of new soccer fields, a softball field and tennis courts. According to the county government, the improvements are part of a broader effort to expand recreational opportunities for residents and visitors.
“Construction has begun on the Berkeley Park Sports Complex,” officials wrote in a Monday morning post on the Henderson County Government Facebook page. “Due to the work being done, the park is CLOSED to the public.”
The timeline for completion is set at 18 months, which would place the reopening in late 2026 barring delays. The announcement did not specify the cost of the project or the contractors involved.
The park closure affects all current access points and amenities. Signage has been placed at park entrances to inform the public, and county officials said further updates will be shared via social media and the county’s website.
Park to feature multiple athletic facilities
Once completed, the renovated complex is expected to host various community sports events and provide expanded access for local teams. The planned facilities include multiple soccer fields, a dedicated softball field and a set of newly constructed tennis courts.
County representatives stated they “cannot wait to have teams playing” on the new fields once construction wraps up. No formal groundbreaking event was held, but machinery and crews were seen at the site as of Monday morning.
The Berkeley Park Sports Complex is located in Hendersonville and has served as a public recreational site for years. Officials emphasized the need for patience as work progresses over the next year and a half.
The county has not released detailed architectural renderings or a final site plan as of Monday, but additional project details are expected to be made public in the coming weeks.
