CUMBERLAND, MD – A Cumberland man who received criminal citations during a drug-related arrest allegedly ripped up the paperwork and threw it onto the ground in public, a move that led to another arrest more than a month later on littering and obstruction charges.
Daniel Stephen Fiddes, 37, of Cumberland, was arrested Wednesday on an active warrant, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
The warrant stemmed from an Aug. 1 incident when Fiddes was arrested on charges related to controlled dangerous substances.
Police said Fiddes received criminal citations for those offenses.
After receiving the paperwork, Fiddes was allegedly seen tearing the citations into pieces and throwing them onto the ground in public.
An application for additional charges was subsequently submitted, and the Allegany County District Court issued an arrest warrant Aug. 2.
Police arrested Fiddes on that warrant Wednesday.
He was charged with littering or dumping less than 100 pounds and obstructing and hindering, according to the department.
Fiddes appeared before a District Court commissioner for an initial appearance and was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
The allegations against Fiddes have not been proven in court.
