Cumberland Man Arrested for Stabbing Incident on Gay Street

CUMBERLAND, MD – The Cumberland Police Department, in coordination with the Combined County Criminal Investigative Unit, has arrested David Leon Powers, 62, of Cumberland, Maryland, following a stabbing on the evening of April 1.

Responding to reports of an assault in the 900 block of Gay Street at approximately 11:33 PM, officers found a victim who had been stabbed. The investigation, which included witness interviews and evidence collection, led to Powers’ identification as the suspect.

Powers was located and arrested at his residence. A search and seizure warrant was executed at his home, uncovering further evidence. He has been charged with first and second-degree assault and is currently held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending a court appearance.
