D.C. man wins $100,000 Maryland Lottery prize using research-based strategy

July 1, 2025

COLMAR MANOR, Md. — A Washington D.C. resident who considers himself a “student” of scratch-off games has claimed a $100,000 top prize from the Maryland Lottery’s $100,000 Ca$h ticket after using a self-developed system to select his play.

The federal employee told lottery officials on Sunday that he used data available on the Maryland Lottery’s website to identify games with remaining high-value prizes. His research led him to choose the $100,000 Ca$h game, which launched in September 2023 and still offers dozens of unclaimed top prizes.

“I have a system that takes a bunch of things into account,” the winner said. “There were plenty of big winners still available and the game’s been out for almost two years.”

Key Points

  • D.C. man used online research to target $100,000 Ca$h scratch-off game
  • Purchased winning ticket at Lucky Mart in Colmar Manor, Maryland
  • Ticket was one of 65 original top prizes; 48 remain unclaimed

The winning ticket was purchased from a vending machine at the Lucky Mart convenience store in Colmar Manor. The player scanned the ticket immediately after purchase and was prompted to take it to the Lottery — a message he had never seen before.

“When I saw her reaction – that’s when I got really excited,” he said, referring to the store clerk’s response upon checking the ticket.

The $100,000 Ca$h is a $30 game, and 48 of the 65 original $100,000 top prizes remain unclaimed.
