DC Ends 2025 With Double Shooting Homicide

WASHINGTON, D.C. – A New Year’s Eve shooting in Southeast Washington left one man dead and another wounded late Wednesday after gunfire erupted in the 200 block of 37th Street SE, police said. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of shots fired and found two adult males suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were rushed to nearby trauma centers. One of the men, who sustained critical injuries, was later pronounced dead despite extensive life-saving efforts, authorities confirmed.

The second victim remains hospitalized but is reported to be conscious and breathing. Police have not released the identities of the victims pending family notification.

Detectives cordoned off the scene as investigators combed the area for evidence and canvassed nearby homes for witnesses and surveillance footage. The motive behind the shooting has not been released, and no arrests have been announced.

The incident marked a grim end to the final day of the year, adding another fatal case to the city’s ongoing struggle with gun violence in several Southeast neighborhoods.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department’s homicide branch or submit anonymous tips through D.C. Crime Solvers.
