DC man arrested in North Beach stabbing after Fourth of July altercation

Investigators say the victim was stabbed multiple times after an argument during a fireworks gathering.

NORTH BEACH, Md. — A Washington, D.C., man has been arrested in connection with a Fourth of July stabbing that left a Calvert County man hospitalized after an argument during a fireworks gathering escalated into violence, according to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded at approximately 10:47 p.m. on July 4 to the 4000 block of 3rd Street in North Beach for a reported stabbing.

A preliminary investigation found that a group of individuals had been setting off fireworks when an argument broke out and escalated into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, one person was stabbed.

Deputies located Tarvio Lavey Jenkins, 45, of Sunderland, suffering from multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Deputies rendered lifesaving aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. Jenkins was transported to a regional trauma center, where he was reported to be in stable condition.

Following what the sheriff’s office described as an extensive investigation, detectives identified Keith Lord Ghee, 52, of Washington, D.C., as the suspect.

After obtaining criminal charges, detectives located and arrested Ghee without incident. He was charged with:

  • Attempted second-degree murder
  • First-degree assault
  • Second-degree assault

Ghee is being held at the Calvert County Detention Center.

Ghee is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
