Delaware Fugitive Captured by Police in Pennsylvania After Falling Through Ceiling

Pittsburgh, PA – A man wanted for probation violations in both Pennsylvania and Delaware was apprehended today after crashing through a ceiling during an arrest attempt, according to the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.

David Smith, 45, formerly of McKees Rocks and now residing in Delaware, has been a fugitive since August after a warrant was issued for violating probation related to a February guilty plea on gun and drug charges. Smith also faced an active bench warrant in Delaware for a separate probation violation.

Detectives from the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office located Smith at a residence on Sorento Street earlier today. A woman at the residence initially denied knowledge of Smith’s whereabouts. During their search, detectives discovered a panel leading to the attic in a second-floor bedroom closet and suspected Smith was hiding there.

While attempting to access the attic, detectives saw a foot break through the ceiling before quickly withdrawing. After issuing commands for Smith to surrender, he fell through the ceiling into a nearby bedroom. Smith was immediately taken into custody without further incident.

Sheriff Kevin M. Kraus announced the arrest, which ends Smith’s two-month period as a fugitive.
