Delaware State Police Arrest Teens in Wilmington Smoke Shop Burglary

July 19, 2024

WILMINGTON, DE – Two teenagers have been arrested by the Delaware State Police following a burglary at Z Smoke Land, a smoke shop located at 5337 Limestone Road in Wilmington. The incident occurred early on the morning of July 15, 2024.

At around 3:58 a.m., state troopers responded to a burglary report at the business. Upon arrival, they found one suspect behind the shopping center. Despite multiple verbal commands to stop, the suspect, a 15-year-old male from Newark, attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended with the help of a police K9. This suspect was then taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries incurred during the arrest.

During the Newark teen’s arrest, troopers observed a second individual fleeing northward. Although the second suspect initially evaded capture, ongoing investigations enabled detectives to identify him as another 15-year-old male, this time from Wilmington. A warrant has since been issued for his arrest.

Investigators discovered that the suspects had drilled a hole into the front door of the smoke shop to gain entry and subsequently removed various items from the premises. The apprehended Newark teenager has been charged with multiple offenses and processed at Troop 2.

The Delaware State Police are urging anyone with further information about this incident to come forward as the investigation continues.
