NEW CASTLE, DE – A tragic motorcycle accident in New Castle has resulted in the death of a 33-year-old man, prompting an investigation by the Delaware State Police.

The incident occurred on the evening of April 4, 2024, around 8:03 PM. A black Harley Davidson motorcycle, reportedly speeding southbound on South Dupont Highway from Frenchtown Road with its lights off, collided with a gray 2018 Mazda 3. The Mazda was executing a turn into a Wawa parking lot at 117 S. Dupont Highway, crossing the southbound lanes, when the motorcycle struck the vehicle’s right side.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to be ejected from his bike, landing in the roadway’s right lane. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, the motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have yet to release the victim’s name as they work to notify his family and relatives of the tragic event.

The Mazda’s driver, a 16-year-old female from New Castle, emerged from the collision unscathed.

This fatal accident underscores the importance of roadway safety, including the use of vehicle lights after dark and adherence to speed limits. The Delaware State Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, as they seek to determine the full sequence of events leading up to this fatal incident.
