Delaware State Police investigate fatal shooting during robbery at New Castle motel

NEW CASTLE, Del. — A 49-year-old Wilmington man was fatally shot during a robbery in the rear parking lot of the Budget Inn on Sunday night, Delaware State Police reported.

Troopers responded to the Budget Inn, located at 3 Memorial Drive, at approximately 8:21 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. The victim was found in the parking lot with a gunshot wound and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.

According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting occurred during a robbery involving an unknown suspect. No description of the suspect has been released at this time.

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation and is working to gather additional evidence and information about the incident.
