NEWARK, Del. — Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that took place early Sunday morning during an unsanctioned car meet in Newark, leaving a 17-year-old male injured.

The incident occurred on August 18, 2024, at approximately 1:21 a.m., when troopers were called to Tyler Way, north of Dawson Drive, following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found a teenage victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was treated and later released.

According to the preliminary investigation, a large crowd had gathered for an unsanctioned car meet on Tyler Way when an argument broke out between the victim and a male suspect. The suspect reportedly threatened to shoot the victim. Shortly thereafter, a second male suspect approached the victim and opened fire, striking him in the legs. Both suspects fled the scene in a silver sedan, heading in an unknown direction.

The first suspect is described as a Middle Eastern male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt. The shooter, described as a light-skinned black male with dreadlocks, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a mask that covered his face. No further details about the suspect vehicle are available at this time, and surveillance footage has not yet been released.
