OHIO TOWNSHIP, PA – The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal incident that initially appeared to be a traffic accident.

The event unfolded on Ben Avon Heights Road near Gass Road at approximately 6:20 PM on August 2.

Responding to a 911 call, first responders arrived at the scene to find civilians administering CPR to an adult male in cardiac arrest, a result of a single-vehicle collision.

The victim was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:28 PM.

An examination revealed that the cause was not the crash but a gunshot wound to the torso.

Detectives have begun an in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Allegheny County Police are urging anyone who might have heard a gunshot in the Ben Avon Heights area between 6:00 PM and 6:20 PM on August 2 to come forward and contact the police tipline.
