BALTIMORE, MD — A driver accused of performing donuts and fleeing police in Fells Point was arrested after an investigation that led to the recovery of eight firearms, Baltimore police said.
Entertainment District officers were conducting enforcement in Fells Point at about 3 a.m. Aug. 29 when they spotted a vehicle performing donuts, driving recklessly and blocking traffic. Three passengers were allegedly hanging out of the vehicle’s windows.
The driver fled as officers approached, according to police.
A short time later, officers found the vehicle disabled in the 200 block of Bethel Street. Its occupants had left, but officers quickly located three female passengers, ages 46, 33 and 30.
A search of the vehicle turned up two loaded handguns: a Smith & Wesson and a Glock 43X with an obscured serial number. Police arrested the three passengers but did not disclose the charges against them.
Investigators identified the alleged driver as Demetrius Thompson, 34, and obtained a search warrant for his residence in the 1700 block of East Federal Street.
Baltimore police and the department’s SWAT team searched the residence and recovered six additional firearms, including rifles, along with various firearm accessories.
Police later obtained an arrest warrant for Thompson, who also had an active Baltimore City Sheriff’s warrant. Authorities said Thompson is prohibited from possessing firearms because of prior convictions.
Thompson was taken to Central Booking and charged. Police did not provide a complete list of the charges.
