Dorchester Man Arrested After Foot Chase, Loaded Handgun Recovered Near Morrissey Boulevard

Boston police recovered a loaded Ruger handgun from the water after a suspect allegedly threatened a gas station employee and fled officers on foot in Dorchester.

Boston, MA – A Dorchester man is facing multiple firearm and assault-related charges after Boston police recovered a loaded handgun and arrested him following a foot pursuit along Morrissey Boulevard on Sunday morning. The incident began after officers responded to a report of a person with a gun at a gas station in the area of 655 Morrissey Boulevard.

Investigators said the suspect entered the gas station shortly before noon and began causing a disturbance before allegedly threatening an employee. The victim told officers there had been ongoing issues involving the suspect and store staff.

Foot pursuit ends near shoreline

After obtaining a description of the suspect, officers searched the surrounding area and located a man standing on the sidewalk near 401 Morrissey Boulevard. As officers approached, the suspect immediately ran across traffic, prompting a foot pursuit.

During the chase, officers observed the suspect stop near the shoreline and throw what appeared to be an L-shaped object into the water. Officers caught up with him moments later, but authorities said he briefly struggled with officers before fleeing again into traffic.

Loaded firearm recovered

The suspect was eventually subdued and taken into custody without further incident. Officers then recovered a firearm from the water in the area where the suspect had been standing during the pursuit.

According to police, the weapon was identified as a Ruger .380 ACP handgun loaded with six rounds of live ammunition. The firearm was seized as evidence.

Multiple charges filed

Boston Police arrested Reginald Bernard Clagon, 46, of Dorchester, in connection with the incident. Authorities said he is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

Clagon faces charges including carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, assault by means of a dangerous weapon, firearm violation with a prior violent or drug crime, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. The investigation remains ongoing.
