The department has received multiple reports of scammers contacting residents and falsely claiming to be officers with the Dover Police Department.

According to authorities, the callers use various tactics to try to convince victims to make payments over the phone. The Dover Police Department emphasized that they will never request payment over the phone under any circumstances.

Residents are advised to be cautious and to hang up immediately if they receive a suspicious call. Anyone with concerns about the legitimacy of a call is encouraged to contact the Dover Police Department’s non-emergency line at 302-736-7111.

The department is urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any such incidents to help prevent further scams.
