Driver sought after 20-year-old e-bike rider killed on St Barnabas Road

TEMPLE HILLS, MD – A 20-year-old e-bike rider died Tuesday after an SUV struck him from behind on St. Barnabas Road in Temple Hills and fled, leaving investigators searching for a possibly dark blue vehicle with front-end damage.

Manuel Mateo-Molina of Temple Hills was identified as the rider killed in the Monday night hit-and-run, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 11:40 p.m. Monday to the area of St. Barnabas Road and Stamp Road following a report of a collision involving an electric bicycle and an SUV.

Mateo-Molina was found in the roadway.

He suffered injuries in the collision and died Tuesday, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates Mateo-Molina and the SUV were both traveling eastbound on St. Barnabas Road before the collision.

For reasons that remain under investigation, police believe the SUV struck Mateo-Molina from behind.

The driver fled the scene.

Investigators said the SUV may be dark blue and could have front-end damage from the collision. No additional description of the vehicle or its driver was released.

The Prince George’s County Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating.

Investigators are seeking witnesses and asking residents and drivers to check dash cameras and home surveillance systems for footage that may have captured the collision or the SUV.
