ODENTON, MD – Anne Arundel County Police used drone technology and K9 support to track down and arrest a suspect who fled from a stolen vehicle Tuesday in Odenton, authorities said.
Officers initially encountered the stolen vehicle after it fled from police, but later found it unoccupied near Blue Water Boulevard and Falling Brook Court. With assistance from a K9 unit and a drone operator, police began searching a nearby wooded area for the suspect.
According to investigators, the drone operator located the individual running through the woods and illuminated him to aid identification. The suspect then entered a drainage tunnel in an attempt to hide, but the drone operator guided K9 and patrol units to the exact location, leading to the arrest.
Police said the incident demonstrates the effective use of emerging technology and coordinated resources in apprehending suspects and reducing crime. Officials noted that these strategies contributed to a reported drop in violent crime during 2025, announced by the department earlier this week.
