February 16, 2024

SEASIDE HEIGHTS, NJ – An unknown man called an Uber driver to take a mysterious duffle bag from Ortley Beach to New York City earlier this week. He knew something was wrong, so he took the bag and called the police.

That Uber driver’s alertness led to a significant drug seizure in Ortley Beach after they were asked to transport a duffle bag suspected to contain illegal drugs to New York City.

The driver, tasked with picking up a passenger named Liam, became suspicious when the individual, described as a black male approximately 5’9″ and weighing 200 lbs, requested only the transportation of his duffle bag.

Feeling uneasy about the request, the driver promptly contacted the Seaside Heights Police Department, suspecting the bag contained illegal substances. Upon inspection, Seaside Heights officers discovered the duffle bag was filled with marijuana and gummies. They then reached out to our agency, as the pickup location fell within our jurisdiction.

The quick thinking and responsible action of the Uber driver played a crucial role in uncovering this illegal operation.
