Drunk Mustang driver caught on camera praying as car slams into median during LA crash

A driver was caught on camera clutching a rosary and praying behind the wheel as his vehicle skidded sideways across a busy Los Angeles median during rush hour.

The green Ford Mustang Mach-E slammed into another car before grinding against a center divider on Tuesday afternoon.

The driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of DUI after investigators confirmed the crash was not caused by autonomous driving software.

The incident happened shortly after 1 p.m. on US-101 southbound, just past the Holly Street overpass in San Carlos, when the electric SUV collided with a red Mitsubishi Mirage before careening into a concrete barrier along the shoulder. Video footage filmed by a passing driver shows the Mustang briefly perched across the median, its front end crumpled and the driver visibly panicked, clutching what appeared to be a rosary.

CHP confirmed the driver, whose name has not yet been released, was not using any self-driving or autopilot features at the time of the crash. The collision resulted in injuries to at least one person in the Mirage, though the extent of those injuries has not been disclosed. Officers at the scene administered field sobriety tests before taking the driver into custody.

The video, which circulated widely on social media, sparked speculation online about whether the crash involved autonomous driving tech. However, CHP clarified in a statement that their preliminary findings confirm human control and driver impairment as the likely causes.

CHP emphasized that while dramatic video footage may go viral, it rarely provides the full scope of events. They said their investigation is ongoing and urged the public to avoid drawing conclusions based solely on social media content.

The driver was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence resulting in injury and is expected to face formal charges.
