CUMBERLAND, MD – A late-night disturbance in downtown Cumberland ended with an arrest after a man allegedly assaulted an officer and damaged a police cruiser early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to a business on the first block of North Centre Street around 12:51 a.m. for a report of an assault.
When they arrived, police said they found 28-year-old Kyle James McClintock of Hyndman, Pennsylvania, who appeared intoxicated and refused to cooperate.
As officers attempted to detain him for questioning, McClintock allegedly resisted, pulled away, and caused a loud disturbance that drew attention from nearby residents and patrons.
Struggle leads to cruiser damage and assault charges
During the brief confrontation, police reported that McClintock assaulted one of the responding officers, leading to minor damage to a department cruiser. He was subdued and taken into custody without further incident.
McClintock was transported to Central Booking, where he remains held pending an initial court appearance.
Multiple charges filed following incident
Authorities charged McClintock with two counts of second-degree assault, obstructing and hindering, destruction of property under $1,000, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace for loud noise, and intoxicated public disturbance.
Police have not reported any serious injuries from the incident.
McClintock remains in custody awaiting a hearing before a district court commissioner.
The Cumberland Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the initial assault call that brought officers to the scene.
