Early Morning Fire on Sawmill Road in Brick

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ—A structure fire at 1142 Sawmill Road was managed early this morning by the Brick Township Fire Department. Dispatched at approximately 3:54 AM, Herbertsville Fire Company Station #24, led by Assistant Chief Jim Lepore, arrived first on the scene.

Lepore established command, reporting heavy smoke and flames. The fire was contained within 40 minutes. Fortunately, the residence was unoccupied at the time, and no injuries occurred. A neighbor, alerted by her smoke alarms, was instrumental in calling 911 after detecting smoke and a burning smell from the adjoining unit, leading to an evacuation.

The fire is now under investigation by Fire Safety Inspectors Paul Matula and Jesse Lyon. The local Fire Safety Bureau has reiterated the lifesaving role of functional smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
