NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested a driver Wednesday morning after police said he fled a traffic stop, ran a red light and crashed into a vehicle driven by the wife of East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen along Route 130.
The two-vehicle crash happened around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of Route 130 and Washington Place. Police said federal agents had pulled over the Acura driver before he sped away in an effort to avoid arrest.
Police said the driver went through a red light and rear-ended a Tesla driven by Dr. Penelope Cohen, the wife of East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen. Cohen suffered a leg injury. Both drivers sustained injuries described as minor.
After the collision, the Acura driver ran from the scene on foot, according to the report. ICE agents subsequently took him into custody.
On X, Democrat Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman falsely linked that crash to a woman who blocked ICE agents at Delaney Hall, blaming ICE for putting people at risk and not themselves, or the illegal alien who caused the crash by fleeing ICE.
Authorities had not released the driver’s identity as of Wednesday. No additional information was provided about why ICE agents initially sought to arrest him. His arrest by ICE does not, by itself, establish his citizenship or immigration status.
