Brooklyn, NY – An East New York resident has been sentenced to eight years in state prison for attempting to sexually assault a woman in Williamsburg, according to Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez. The incident occurred while the victim was sleeping, and her roommate’s intervention led to the assailant fleeing, leaving behind critical identification evidence.

Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Heidi Cesare delivered the sentence on Tuesday, with Akijah Hall, 29, pleading guilty to several charges including second-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony. Hall’s garment and wallet, containing his identification, were left at the crime scene, aiding in his arrest.

The crime took place on October 11, 2019, around 4:30 a.m., when Hall forcibly entered an apartment on Grand Street. He attempted to silence and assault a 25-year-old woman in her bedroom before being confronted by the roommate.

The District Attorney’s office led the prosecution, with Assistant District Attorney Kevin O’Donnell overseeing the case. Hall’s attempt to report missing items at a police precinct unraveled when he was arrested outside his home shortly after the crime.
