Eastern Shore Man Wins $50,000 in Maryland Lottery

August 19, 2024

DENTON, MD — A Caroline County man experienced an unexpected jolt of excitement when he scratched off a $50,000 prize on a Maryland Lottery ticket. The electrical estimator, who prefers to avoid the term “shock” due to the nature of his profession, was surprised by his luck with the $500,000 Crossword instant ticket, purchased at Bullock’s Deli in Denton.

The local resident, who indulges in lottery tickets two to three times a month as a way to unwind after work, expressed his disbelief. “It was a huge rush,” he said, recounting the moment the prize was revealed. Despite feeling elated, he managed to maintain his composure while standing in the deli, where he had stopped for gas and coffee.

His choice of the $500,000 Crossword game was spontaneous. “I usually pick tickets randomly when I play,” he explained. “But when I saw that top prize, I knew what I wanted.” The win, he says, will be safely deposited in the bank, although he admits the odds are high that his future lottery purchases will be at Bullock’s, now considered his lucky spot.

Launched in February, the $500,000 Crossword game offers tickets at $20 each, featuring five top prizes of half a million dollars and several $50,000 second-tier prizes. With three top prizes and five second-tier prizes still up for grabs, other hopefuls might find themselves visiting Bullock’s Deli at 610 Campground Road to try their luck.
