MOUNT VERNON, NY—A 75-year-old woman was taken to Jacobi Medical Center after stabbing herself in the chest early Tuesday morning. The incident, which occurred just before 1 a.m. on Beechwood Avenue, is now under investigation by Mount Vernon Police.

Upon arrival, police and first responders found the woman suffering from wounds to her abdominal area, bleeding from her injuries. Timothy Allen, the city’s Director of Communications, confirmed the details of the distressing event.
