Elderly woman dies following crash with on-duty officer in Prince George’s County

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — An 85-year-old woman has died from injuries sustained in a crash with an on-duty Prince George’s County Police officer in Largo, days after the incident.

Jeanette Benthall, a resident of Largo, was driving near the intersection of Campus Way South and Joyceton Drive on September 9 when she collided with the officer’s vehicle around 11:20 a.m., according to police reports. Emergency responders transported both Benthall and the officer to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Benthall remained in critical condition before passing away on September 14. The officer involved in the crash was treated and released.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Detectives are working to gather additional evidence, including potential surveillance footage, and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.
