November 23, 2021

WESLACO, TX – On Sunday, November 21, 2021, at approximately 3:43 am. Weslaco Police were dispatched to a verbal dispute involving persons in two vehicles, that dispute was reported at 1400 block of East 8th Street, in Weslaco, County of Hidalgo, Texas. As officers responded to location, they were then directed to the 700 block of Tierra Santa Boulevard, where the same parties had traveled to.

The preliminary investigation revealed that one of the parties was allegedly striking the other vehicle causing damage as it waited to enter the gate of a residential subdivision. Officers were further notified before arriving on scene that the parties involved were a female, and her ex-boyfriend who was allegedly driving the car-ramming the SUV. When officers arrived on scene, they observed a male holding a firearm approaching the front of the SUV; the SUV was boxed in between the passenger vehicle and the subdivision’s gate. A Weslaco Police Officer then discharged his firearm towards the suspect to defend the persons inside the SUV. The armed male then used his firearm to cause a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Once the scene was safe, Weslaco Police requested medical services for the male and persons inside the SUV.

At the request of the Weslaco Police Department, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office will investigate the officer-involved shooting. A male was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other persons were injured, and the decedent’s identity will not be released until notification of next of kin. This is an open, active investigation, and an update will be provided at a later time.
