Explosion destroys New Jersey home, fire damages neighbor’s house

WASHINGTON TWP., N.J. — A Gloucester County home was destroyed early Sunday morning following a loud explosion and fire that also damaged a neighboring residence, local authorities said.

Washington Township Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting an explosion near Tranquility Court and Orion Way just after 2 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a home fully engulfed in flames, with the fire partially spreading to the adjacent house.

Fire crews from Washington Township and Gloucester County battled the blaze for approximately 30 minutes before bringing it under control.

Investigators have not confirmed the cause of the explosion but said the matter remains under active investigation. Local officials have not identified the homeowners.

The area around Tranquility Court remained closed off Sunday morning as crews assessed structural damage and continued to monitor for any potential flare-ups.
