Fair Lawn police warn seniors about rising scam threats

FAIR LAWN, NJ — The Fair Lawn Police Department hosted an informational session at the local Senior Center to educate older residents on how to avoid becoming victims of scams.

Captain Dawicki and Sergeant Eleshewich led the presentation, emphasizing common tactics used by scammers, such as urgent phone requests for money, demands for gift cards or wire transfers, and attempts to extract personal or financial information over the phone.

“Never share personal or financial information unless you’re absolutely certain of who you’re speaking with,” the department advised in a statement shared on social media following the event.

The department encouraged residents to spread awareness among family members who may not regularly use social media platforms to stay informed. Officials stressed the importance of verifying suspicious requests by contacting the police at 201-796-1400.

The presentation is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to protect the community by raising awareness and offering resources to combat scams targeting vulnerable populations.

Fair Lawn police urge residents to stay vigilant against financial scams targeting seniors.
