False Armed Robbery Report Leads to Charges in Calvert County

June 11, 2024

DUNKIRK, MD – The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Washington D.C. man, Brian Arnell Hall, 35, with making a false statement to a law enforcement officer following his report of an armed robbery at the Safeway Gas Pumps in Dunkirk. Hall initially reported that on June 4, at around 10:30 a.m., he was approached by an armed suspect who demanded his wallet.

After a detailed investigation, which included reviewing surveillance footage and conducting witness interviews, authorities found inconsistencies in Hall’s story. The investigative results confirmed that the alleged armed robbery never occurred, leading to the conclusion that Hall had fabricated the entire incident.

Sheriff Ricky Cox emphasized the seriousness with which the department treats reports of criminal activity and the implications of false reports. He noted that such incidents waste valuable police resources and cause undue fear among the community. The sheriff affirmed the commitment of his office to maintaining public safety and holding individuals accountable for misleading law enforcement.
