Family offers $6,000 reward for information in son’s homicide

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The family of a Newport News man slain in 2021 has offered a $6,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.

On December 30, 2021, at 8:29 p.m., police responded to a shooting at 1217 32nd Street and discovered 24-year-old Occoneechee Meechee with a gunshot wound.

Meechee was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries less than an hour later.

The Newport News Police Department has classified the incident as a homicide and is currently seeking new leads and witnesses.

For information that leads to an arrest, the family is offering a reward that must remain separate from the Crime Line, requiring the tipster to identify themselves and potentially testify in court.
