Far Rockaway Woman Charged for Criminally Neglect Animal Abuse

QUEENS, NY – Evadne Harrington has been charged with animal abuse following the discovery of a severely malnourished and neglected dog in her Far Rockaway apartment, announced Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

The dog, found chained to a box without access to food or water on December 21, was in a dire condition, prompting immediate medical intervention.

District Attorney Katz condemned the abuse of defenseless animals, expressing relief that the dog, named Puddin, was rescued and is on the path to recovery. Harrington, 41, is facing charges that include overdriving, torturing, injuring animals/failure to provide sustenance, and failure to provide proper food and drink to an impounded animal. If convicted, she could serve up to a year in jail. The case is set to continue in court on July 1 under Criminal Court Judge Jeffrey Gershuny.

The police discovered Puddin in a state of extreme neglect, with visible signs of malnutrition and injury. She was immediately taken for veterinary care, where it was confirmed she suffered from skin infections, hair loss, and was emaciated.

Following treatment, Puddin has been placed in foster care, awaiting adoption.
