Fatal Accident Investigation Underway in Smyrna

Smyrna, DE- The Delaware State Police are looking into a fatal single-vehicle accident that happened Sunday morning in Smyrna.

Around 9:38 a.m. on Sunday, a 1995 Freightliner dump truck was driving southbound on Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway. A blown tire led the truck off the roadway near the East Commerce Street overpass, where it hit a berm and overturned.

The truck’s driver, a 63-year-old Magnolia, Delaware resident, was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead. Authorities are withholding his identity pending family notification.

The investigation closed the roadway for four hours on Sunday. Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to examine the incident, and witnesses are encouraged to contact Master Corporal W. Booth at 302-698-8451 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
