Washington, DC — A scooter rider was killed in a Northeast intersection crash after entering against a red light and colliding with a turning vehicle, according to investigators.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department’s preliminary investigation, a 2017 Honda Civic was traveling southbound on North Capitol Street and entered the intersection on a green signal. The vehicle stopped while waiting for traffic to clear before attempting a left turn onto K Street.
As the light turned red for northbound and southbound traffic, a 2025 Zhilong ST scooter traveling northbound entered the intersection against the red signal, which had been active for several seconds. The scooter struck the passenger side of the Civic during the turn.
