Fatal crash on Route 1 in Edison under investigation

EDISON, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Tuesday morning at the intersection of Route 1 and Grandview Avenue, officials said.

Police responded to the scene at 12:07 a.m. and found two vehicles involved in the collision. A Ford Explorer, driven by a 48-year-old man from Brooklyn, sustained minor damage. The driver was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and later released.

The second vehicle, a Mitsubishi, was operated by 36-year-old Makiano Francois of Irvington. Francois sustained serious injuries and was transported to the same hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
