Dover Man Killed in Smyrna Motorcycle Crash

SMYRNA, DE – A tragic motorcycle collision has resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man from Dover. Delaware State Police are currently investigating the incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon.

The crash took place on May 30, 2024, at around 1:12 p.m. A Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 69-year-old Smyrna man with a 69-year-old female passenger, was eastbound on Sweet Corn Lane. The vehicle stopped at a stop sign at South Dupont Boulevard before pulling across the roadway, directly into the path of a southbound Harley Davidson motorcycle in the left lane. The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the Jeep.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and his identity is being withheld pending family notification. The occupants of the Jeep were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The accident caused a closure of the roadway for about three hours to allow for an investigation and clearing of the scene. The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the investigation.
