Dayton, OH A 24-year-old man faces significant prison time after entering a guilty plea for his involvement in the fatal shooting of a woman earlier this week. Noah Corbitt pleaded guilty to murder, four counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon, and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises, according to court records.
The incident occurred during a confrontation over a botched firearm sale on September 21. Corbitt, angry after losing $200 in the deal, shot at a vehicle driven by Jermea Lyle while she had her 4-year-old daughter in the back seat.
As the victim drove on Interstate 75, she was struck by a bullet that entered her left back and exited her chest. Lyle was pronounced dead shortly after being rushed to Miami Valley Hospital, leaving her daughter without a mother.
Corbitt reportedly pursued Lyle’s vehicle after an encounter with another man involved in the earlier dispute. Although the two men had worked together at an Amazon facility, their relationship soured over the failed gun transaction.
Investigators later discovered a 9 mm bullet that had passed through Lyle’s body and remained lodged in the driver’s seat. A search of Corbitt’s home yielded a firearm that ballistics experts confirmed was the weapon used in the shooting.
During questioning, Corbitt claimed he fired a warning shot from his car window, insisting that the gun had jammed after the first round. In exchange for his guilty plea, several charges were dismissed, leading to a recommended sentence of 50 years to life.
Corbitt is scheduled to be sentenced on November 14.
