Fatal shooting in Baltimore leads to first-degree murder arrest

Baltimore man charged in deadly Calhoun Street shooting after yearlong investigation

Baltimore, MD — A 38-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting in West Baltimore that left a man fatally wounded in September of last year.

Tirrell Evans, a Baltimore resident, was arrested earlier this month following a 14-month investigation into the fatal shooting of 42-year-old Richard Evans. The two men, despite sharing the same last name, have not been confirmed to be related.

The shooting occurred on the night of September 11 near the 1300 block of North Calhoun Street in the city’s Western District. Officers responding to the scene shortly after 10:28 p.m. found the victim with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

Detectives identified Tirrell Evans as a suspect following extensive investigative work, though officials have not disclosed the motive behind the killing or details about how Evans was linked to the crime. He was taken into custody on November 11 and is currently being held without bail.

He now faces first-degree murder charges along with additional, unspecified counts related to the case.

The homicide adds to the ongoing concerns over gun violence in Baltimore’s Western District, a hotspot for violent crime and a focus area for recent law enforcement initiatives.

Richard Evans’ death marked another entry in the city’s annual homicide tally and sparked a prolonged investigation that concluded this month with the suspect in custody.
