Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash Under Investigation in Dover

Dover, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred early Friday morning in Dover.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 12:05 a.m. on Hazlettville Road near Artis Drive. A Mazda CX5 traveling westbound at a high rate of speed failed to navigate a curve, veered off the road, and hit a mailbox and utility pole guide wire. The vehicle then overturned, struck a tree, and collided with an unoccupied vehicle on the 3900 block of Hazlettville Road. The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Dover, was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld until her family is notified.

The roadway remained closed for a significant period while authorities investigated and cleared the scene. Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation.
