Fentanyl and crack bust at Mass and Cass leads to arrest of Dorchester man

Fentanyl trafficker busted in Boston after hand-to-hand deal

BOSTON, MA – A drug investigation in the area of Massachusetts Avenue and Albany Street led to the arrest of a Dorchester man Saturday after police recovered fentanyl, crack cocaine, marijuana, and cash during a midday sting.

At approximately 12:00 p.m., officers from the Boston Police Neighborhood Engagement Safety Team (NEST) were patrolling the area commonly known as Mass and Cass when they spotted activity consistent with street-level narcotics dealing. Officers observed multiple hand-to-hand exchanges between individuals, prompting an on-site investigation.

Police first made contact with a woman who tried to discard a plastic bag containing a white, rock-like substance. She was identified and issued a summons to appear in Roxbury District Court for possession of a Class B substance.

Officers continued to monitor a male suspect, later identified as Trahern Combs, 55, of Dorchester, who was seen conducting additional suspected drug transactions. Based on surveillance and coordination with nearby units, Combs was located inside a nearby business and taken into custody without incident.

A search led to the recovery of:

  • Three medium plastic bags containing approximately 10 grams of fentanyl
  • Twenty-four small plastic bags of crack cocaine totaling about 7 grams
  • Eight medium plastic bags of marijuana totaling approximately 19 grams
  • An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency

Combs is facing multiple drug-related charges and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court. Charges include trafficking in fentanyl (more than 10 grams), possession with intent to distribute a Class B substance, distribution of a Class B substance, and possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance.
