Fire at Crea Fill Fibers Warehouse Deemed Accidental

WORTON, MD—A fire broke out at the Crea Fill Fibers Corporation warehouse on 10200 Worton Road late Wednesday night, with preliminary investigations pointing to an accidental cause.

The incident occurred at 10:15 PM at the one-story commercial warehouse. The Chestertown Volunteer Fire Department was promptly on the scene, with 40 firefighters working to control the blaze within 40 minutes. The fire originated in an industrial shredder due to a malfunction.

While the structure itself did not suffer any damage, the contents of the warehouse sustained losses estimated at $60,000. Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths reported. The warehouse’s fire alarm system functioned as intended, triggering the sprinkler system which effectively controlled the fire until additional firefighting forces arrived.

The incident did not lead to any arrests, and the area has been secured as the investigation continues.
