Fire damages Salisbury home; two cats killed, one injured

SALISBURY, Md. — A fire broke out in a two-story, wood-framed home in Salisbury, causing extensive damage but resulting in no human injuries, officials said.

Firefighters responded to 110 Cloverdale Street after the blaze was discovered by an occupant. The Salisbury Fire Department, along with multiple crews, battled the two-alarm fire for an hour before bringing it under control.

Investigators determined the fire started in the basement due to an unknown failure in the home’s oil furnace. The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in structural damage and $50,000 in lost contents.

Smoke alarms and fire sprinklers were present and activated, but two cats perished, and a third was injured. The American Red Cross and friends are assisting the displaced occupants, identified as April Joudrey and Kimberly Morgan.
