Fire rips through Whiting quadplex, residents escape unscathed

WHITING, N.J. — Firefighters responded to a residential quadplex fire in Whiting on Friday night, where flames pierced through the roof and prompted a swift, multi-agency response that successfully prevented injuries and contained the damage to a single unit.

The fire broke out in the quadplex on Township Line Road, drawing multiple 911 calls that led Assistant Chief 3310 to upgrade the incident to a full box alarm. Chief 3300 was first on the scene and confirmed heavy fire conditions, immediately initiating interior operations, while 3310 assumed command.

Engine 3301’s crew of seven conducted forcible entry, fire suppression, and primary searches. Officials said the firefighters’ aggressive efforts ensured that the fire was contained to the unit of origin. All primary searches of the quadplex were negative, and every resident was accounted for with no reported injuries.

Responding agencies included local crews from Station 33 along with mutual aid from Stations 67, 32, 34, 20, 60, 17, 62, and 39. Units cleared the scene by midnight, with all crews returned to service shortly thereafter.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ocean County Fire Marshal and Manchester Police Department.
